Proficiency and Scoring
The Flexible Endoscopy Curriculum is based on the concept of proficiency-based training, which recognizes the fact that learners progress at different rates. As such, individuals train to a mastery goal, rather than for a specified period of time. That is, learning time is allowed to vary among learners, but achievement is not. Learners are allowed to practice each skill as many times as necessary to achieve the designated mastery criterion listed below. The table below indicates the mastery criteria designated for each task.

For example, to achieve proficiency on EndoBubble 1, you must pop at least 19 balloons within 78 seconds and you may not strike the wall more than 2 times. You must meet these criteria on 2 consecutive trials.

Protocol
- Trainee completes the pretest questionnaire (flexendopretestquest.doc).
- Trainee completes baseline testing. This consists of one trial of Case #1, Module 1, one trial of EndoBubble I, and one trial of EndoBubble II. Scores are recorded on the worksheets provided in the files "flexendopretestscore.doc" and 'GAGESColonScoreSheet.pdf' (for Case #1 only).
- Trainee trains to proficiency on the EndoBubble 1 and EndoBubble 2 tasks. Scores are recorded on the worksheets provided in the file 'flexendoscoresheet.xls'.
- Trainee completes posttesting. This consists of one trial of Case #1, Module 1 Colonoscopy , one trial of EndoBubble I, and one trial of EndoBubble II. Scores are recorded on the worksheets provided in the files "flexendoposttestscore.doc" and 'GAGESColonScoreSheet.pdf' (for Case #1 only).
- Trainee completes the posttest questionnaire (flexendoposttestquest.doc).
